Costs Drafting History: Tom started his career in costs drafting in 2010.
Tom is an experienced Costs Lawyer dealing with all aspects of costs arising out of civil litigation, with a particular focus on costs relating to multi-track matters and technical costs issues.
The majority of Tom’s workload consists of drafting bills of costs, drafting costs pleadings such as costs budgets, points of dispute or replies, undertaking costs management work and negotiating settlements in costs matters arising out of a variety of different types of litigation. He also regularly accepts instructions to appear as an advocate at costs hearings, including detailed assessment hearings, Costs & Case Management Conferences and application hearings.
Tom undertakes work on behalf of both paying and receiving parties and has experience of handling detailed assessment proceedings in personal injury and clinical negligence claims, banking and finance litigation, commercial litigation, professional negligence claims and arbitral matters, as well as various other types of civil litigation such as judicial review claims, directors disqualification proceedings, land disputes and ancillary relief cases. He also has extensive experience in preparing bills of costs for assessment in the Court of Protection, as well as having dealt with various different types of costs claims in publicly funded matters. Tom also has experience in dealing with Solicitors Act assessments.
Tom has previously given seminars and training to solicitors on the subject of costs litigation.
