Get to know Leanne Davies

Q: Who do you work with?

A: I work as a Consultant for Bidwell Henderson, but I work from home day to day. I am far from lonely though as I am contact with a number of the other consultants who are around daily for help and chat.

Q: Why/how did you get into the field of costs?

A: I was doing work experience at a law firm in Cardiff within the Clinical Negligence Department. I had started the work experience hoping to get a training contract, but one of the solicitors pointed out that I would be well suited to a career as a draftsman. At the time I had no idea what that was so I spent some time looking through some Bills of Costs with the solicitor and decided to take the plunge and go for it!

Q: What does your job entail?

A:I deal with all aspects of Legal Aid costing. I have a specialism in high costs cases, which is slightly different to normal bill/claim drafting in that it involves planning a case as it takes place as opposed to just seeing the file at the end.

Q: How would you describe yourself?

A: This is much more difficult to answer than it seems! I suppose I would describe myself as a dedicated person who cares. I care about how well I do my job, how well I look after my family and about being a good friend.

Q: Do you have any unusual talents?

A: I am frequently able to eat a whole packet of biscuits during a working day, without feeling sick or full! Does that count?

Q: What do you do in your spare time?

A: I have a 2 year old which means my spare time is usually spent painting, attending make believe tea parties and watching Disney films!

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?

A: I used to want to be a vet but that dream was short lived when I realised that it would involve putting animals to sleep. I then changed my mind and decided I wanted to be a solicitor (I didn’t even know what it was at the time but it sounded fancy).

Q: Which three words describe you best?

A: Benevolent, Friendly and Driven

Q: What was your first job?

A: I started work at 14 at a local pub in the kitchen. I continued to work there throughout my teenage years and also into my twenties during uni breaks.
