Name: David Smith
Costs Drafting History: 18 years
Qualifications: BSc Hons Mathematics
I have worked as a Costs Draftsman since starting as a trainee in 2001, developing a particular specialism in legal aid costs and especially family legal aid.
I gradually started to become more involved with training and was responsible for creating the Training Programme at my previous company.
I have been using CCMS since the pilot in the North East in 2013 and was subsequently part of the pilot for XML claim upload. I also became involved in the Billing Group that was providing feedback to the LAA on billing in the system during the early days of CCMS.
I have presented various seminars and workshops around the country for firms of solicitors looking at maximising legal aid costs and also providing updates whenever new fee schemes are introduced. This has also included being a guest speaker at the LAPG annual conference on various occasions.
I became Training Manager at Bidwell Henderson in January 2018, and have been working on the company training programme in addition to setting up the Newcastle office.
