Name: Alexandra Hardwick
Location: Rochester, Kent
Qualifications: BA (Hons) in English Literature from Cardiff University
Costs Drafting History: 6 years
I trained in 2010 in Birmingham and moved from preparing Legal Aid Claims and Bills of Costs for family matters to preparing complex Bills for Immigration, Judicial Review and Housing files, including 6 column bills of costs.
I prepared legal aid claims alongside preparing bills for IP matters, with a particular emphasis on preparing high costs multi claimant bills for complex personal injury matters. I have a particular interest in preparing budgets and bills for medical negligence and accident at work claims. I also enjoy preparing budgets and bills of costs for complex civil litigation matters.
I have undertaken processing of claims and bills for both publically funded and privately funded matters and have prepared post assessment claims for the LAA. I have also been instructed for detailed assessment hearings for legal aid matters.
As part of the processing of IP bills of costs, I have negotiated with paying parties, prepared points of dispute and replies and prepared bundles for detailed assessments in the SCCO.
Profile: After training and working in Birmingham, I took a few years away from costing while my children were little. Now we enjoy travelling as a family and have been fortunate enough to go to Australia to stay with my brother. Although we won’t repeat that flight in a hurry we look forward to exploring Europe now that we live so close to the English Channel.
Claim to fame: During my student days, I managed to have 4 of my poems and short stories published in anthologies!
Favourite TV genre: Any and all historical dramas regardless of how inaccurate they might be! But The Sound of Music is my all-time favourite film.
