2x Legal Aid Consultant Costs Draftsmen/Costs Lawyers (self-employed)

1x Management position for Costs Lawyer/Draftsman (employed)

1x Legal Aid Costs Draftsman to provide training on legal aid billing and or processing (self-employed or employed)

1x Legal Clerk (self-employed or employed)

We are looking for an exceptional Costs Lawyer or Draftsman who will help us on the path to becoming the UK’s largest provider of billing services within the next three years.

We have grown to a team of thirty in just over three years. We have three Directors and three support staff. We have continually reinvested our time and profits back in to the company to grow month on month and secure a future for our growing team.

We are looking for someone with experience in the following areas:

  1. Communicating confidently about Inter Partes and Legal Aid costs
  2. Ensuring the company ethos is maintained
  3. Providing training seminars to clients and the team
  4. Drafting IP and LA bills
  5. Meeting and presenting to potential and existing clients
  6. Providing quality control and checking work
  7. Researching and pitching new ideas to the Directors
  8. Implementing new ideas, systems and processes
  9. Exploring new markets and futureproofing
  10. Assisting with marketing campaigns and events

  • A team player who can work under their own initiative
  • Ability to regularly check your own work and provide high standard of accuracy
  • Great organisational skills
  • Good IT and communication skills

Preferential skills

  • Experience using CostsMaster software
  • Undertaking or having completed the ACL course

BHCC began in 2014 with three Directors. It is now an established name for legal aid costs drafting services and has increased to team of 28 with plans to increase to 38 by this time next year. We are fortunate to work with some of the best and most committed legal aid lawyers. They provide the highest level of service for their clients and we want to do the same for them.

We love what we do. We genuinely care about our clients and our team. No firm is perfect but we continue to reinvest our time, profits and resources, to ensure we keep ahead of any changes and remain competitive.

In addition to the above we can assist with registration emails to the LAA, quick costs comparisons between the schemes to advise you which option will be the most beneficial and CCMS uploads.

Preparing a Costs Budget / Precedent H

At Bidwell Henderson we have a sub-team who can assist with swift and accurate preparation of a Costs Budget / Precedent H.

That team includes:

Mark Bidwell, Owen Jones and Eleanor Bryant.

Our charges are clear and straightforward at .75% of the budget. We can also prepare detailed Phased Bills thereafter which accurately reflect the actual costs incurred under the budget.

Type: Full time employment

Salary: Minimum wage with potential to earn a productivity and accuracy related bonus

Location: Alfreton, Derbyshire (currently in the process of moving to larger premises within Alfreton)

  • Prepare documents in CostsMaster
  • Analysing files and preparing advice on compliance with Legal Aid Agency regulations and guidance
  • Swiftly deal with client enquiries
  • Maintain and promote relationships with clients
  • Ability to prioritise urgent work and meet deadlines

Essential requirements:

  • Experience of working in an office environment or being part of a team
  • Undertaking or having completed a Law Degree or equivalent
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Motivated person who is a team player who can work under their own initiative when required
  • Ability to regularly check your own work and provide high standard of accuracy
  • Great organisational skills
  • Good Keyboard and communication skills
